About | I studied animal sciences focusing on honey bees and sustainability. My degrees and qualification courses include a Ph.D. degree in agricultural sciences (University of Hohenheim, Germany), a four-month intensive training on beekeeping for poverty alleviation (University of Ghent, Belgium), a one-year diploma in poultry husbandry and animal feed (Ptcplus, the Netherlands) and an M.Sc. degree in livestock production and pastoral development as well as a B.Sc. degree in animal and range sciences (Mekelle University, Ethiopia). My Ph.D. dissertation focused on the classification of honey bee (Apis mellifera) subspecies and sustainability of beekeeping systems in Ethiopia using molecular genetics, morphometrics, and surveys by which subspecies and evolutionary lineages of the honey bee were classified; signatures of local adaptation were identified and sustainability of apicultural transformation was evaluated. My research areas and interests include deciphering and promoting honey bees’ and other pollinators’ diversity and management sustainability using transdisciplinary approaches that integrate molecular genetics, morphometrics, field experiments, and surveys in collaboration with international institutions and colleagues. |
